Certificate of Analysis

What a COA contains.

A certificate of analysis is the test report for exactly one batch. It states what was examined, by which method and with what result. Without a batch number such a document is arbitrary — which is why that number is the most important field on it.

BatchUnique identifier of the production batch. It links the container to the document.
PurityThe purity figure stated for this batch in the report.
TestmethodeThe method used to analyse the batch, HPLC for example.
TestlaborThe facility that carried out the analysis.
ReportThe stored PDF or the verification link.

Data upkeep

One record per batch.

On goods receipt, batch, purity, test method and testing laboratory are entered on the product. The values then appear automatically on the product page and in the COA library. When a new batch arrives the record is replaced, not extended, so that two versions never sit side by side.

Staying honest

What analytics cannot do.

A test report describes the identity and purity of a batch. It says nothing about suitability, safety or effect in any application, and it is no substitute for regulatory approval as a medicine.
Values cannot be carried over to other batches or deliveries. That is why the batch number appears on both the vial and the report.
Which method is documented is stated in each record. Where a field is missing we do not claim the value — a dash appears instead.
Once the parcel is handed to the carrier we can no longer document storage conditions. Guidance is given under Storage and handling.
